Securing WiFi on iPhone

I have tried using the previous iPhone firmware's VPN support (L2TP and PPTP) and both worked great with my XServe running both VPN protocols. However, the previous firmware did not have support for the popular Cisco VPN IPseclinks protocol. The current iPhone 2.0 firmware added more enterprise networking functionality, such as, push technologies, enterprise wifi settings and more VPN functionality.

Wordpress iPhone Client

Wordpress is one of the popular open source blogging platform available in the market today. In fact, I am using it in my blogs and hoping that we can use it here, too. :) If you are like me, I'd like to be able to blog everywhere, whenever I have the urge to blog, regardless of whether I have my Macbook Pro or not. Whilst there is no shortage in support for mobile blogging via e-mail or customized interfaces, it still requires that you be online all the time.

This is no longer the case after Wordpress released, in open source, their iPhone app. This blogging tool even works whilst you are offline, caching the entries locally until you are within striking distance of a decent network connection. Now, there is no excuse not to blog.

Apple just released iPhone 2.1 beta to developers. This new version provides upgrades to the Core Location service, which might mean that turn-by-turn GPS functionality on the latest iPhone 3G is not too far behind. Also included is some hints of the Push Notification API that was announced by Jobs at WWDC last month. This will enable application developers to have pseudo-background-processing capabilities.

It did not take long, however, for hackers to announce that the PWNAGE tool is ready for iPhone 2.1.

I can't wait to test this once the new iPhone 2.1 firmware is out for consumers.

Apple - MobileMe
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!

Apple's dotMac replacement, MobileMe continues to be plagued with problems. If this is how Cloud Computing will be in the future, then it looks a bit bleak, I should say. Add the fact that Amazon S3 storage services also had wide-spread technical issues not too long ago left customers having their services interrupted.

Google Mobile App is the first of the many *free* applications available for your iPhone/iPod Touch running the new iPhone 2.0 firmware that we will feature here. At first glance, you may think that it is a simple glorified search tool but once you see the short demo below, you'll be amazed at how powerful this tool is.

With the power of the iPhone and the capabilities of the software, the life of the road warrior is getting more and more pleasant by having far less devices to carry around with them.

So, in the next few days, we will feature more applications available on the iTunes AppStore. For the meantime, what is/are yours?
