World’s Largest Prefab Building at Atlantic Yards December 12th, 2012
New York Times reveals that Bruce Ratner is planning on constructing the world's tallest prefabricated building at Brooklyn's Atlantic Yards. This prefabricated building will be 34 stories high and the construction of it may save money and cut labor costs in half. The prefab building will be built by constructing 900 modules that would be stacked and bolted together to create 400 new affordable housing units. This will fulfill part of Ratner's promise that 30 percent of the 6000 new apartments will be reserved for low to middle income residents.
Constructing a prefab building will not only save Ratner costs, but will also help him cope with the pressure from affordable housing advocates and meet financial deadlines. The downside of a prefabricated building is that there will be less job opportunities.
