Video: The Paradox of Choice Why More Is Less
Filed in archive Marketing on April 30, 2007
If you have not already seen it, anyone in business, and particularly in marketing should see the video of Barry Schwartz "The Paradox of Choice Why More Is Less". This is compelling stuff brought to you via Google in the UK. Also thanks to Phone Reversal Lookup who have this video sitting alone on a page of advertising and where I saw the video first and thanks also to "Intelligence Testing" for a note that led to another video and the book by Barry Schwartz.
A highlight for me was the fact that life is becoming depressing in the USA. Barry Schwartz puts this down to the fact about living in a world of many, many choices. When there was a possibility of having one of only two options, let say buying jeans, then the fault if there is any of the product lies in the fact that they only produced that and I have to take what is given. However, in a shop where I have 200 options from which I can pick, the shop attendant gives me all the options and then I must make a choice. If anything is wrong with the jeans when you get them home, who is responsible? Of course it is me, I made the choices.
Interesting viewing no matter what your business. Might even alter the way you market or sell your product. I have gleaned a lot from the one hour video. You don't need to watch it, just listen as you are doing other things.
