Twitter: Great for Liveblogging March 15th, 2007

A few days ago I wrote a piece on how Twitter is fast becoming the next big addiction. Embraced by early adopters, Twitter finds its way to the hearts of those who are in need of attention, are conserving SMS credits or those who find the need to do liveblogging.
I'm always live on Twitter via GMail chat on the Blackberry, and I can't seem to shake the feeling that I SHOULD be online at all times, wanting everyone to know what I'm doing – even if they are just sound bites. Yes, I had a deprived childhood. So humor me for a bit.
Nonetheless, Twitter has become a fast rising communication tool as it is an in between to the instant gratification of blogging and the sobriety of SMS, two great ways to keep people informed.

I can see the fascination of Twitter, especially if you make some friends there and you have fun seeing what the other is doing all the time. Personally, I don’t have the time, but if I did I would be on there too.

I’ve seen some live blogging via Twitter, folks at conferences commenting on what the speakers are saying. But plans by the executive producer of a new Fox TV series to Twitter updates during the premier of ”Drive” may be the first such use of the channel by a mainstream media outlet.

As an experiment, I will be using my Twitter account to liveblog the Australian Grand Prix this weekend, starting with tonight’s first practice session. I’ve got so many more ideas, but I have not got the time to deal with them at the moment. But if I like the way this experiment turns out, be on the lookout for some new stuff on this front.
