As per a survey by Pew Research Center, popularity of online newspapers has been increasing over the years as compared to print. It has emerged as third most popular form of news after national and local TV stations. More than half of the American population visits two to five websites for updating themselves with the latest news. Online newspapers are available in both free and paid content format. For accessing premium content a person generally has to opt for monthly or yearly newspaper subscription.

Most of the online news seekers stick to a few websites for their news needs. The impact of online newspapers is such that there has already been a drop by 50% of regular readers of newspapers which include both local and national newspapers. Print newspapers have been facing tough time as more and more users are migrating to online newspapers.

With increasing popularity of online newspapers, companies have decided to charge a fee for accessing these websites. Now it needs to be seen how online readers react to it as up till now they were used to free content.
