New Writer on Tech Without Wires

You may have detected a change in the way this blog is moving. Yes, I am a techie-manager running a small business totally unwired. Every client of mine has never seen me in person, and most would be unaware of my age, or even where I am in the world. In addition to that each of the people in my business do not see each other regularly. My key manager works 600 miles away and I have clients in six countries around the world. I work in the ultimate wireless office.

So here we go. This blog is about the mobile office. It is not just about wireless technologies in general.

The focus of my blog is about the mobile office. For 15 years my office has morphed from being a single location in an office block to just about anywhere I am. I have been an entrepreneur for the last 15 years, albeit starting new businesses for major companies. Even now, when I am officially not working anywhere, I got to a city coffee house to meet with old colleagues, and at the same time I am sampling my emails while online with my laptop.

I am very much into using on-demand software such as Google's Docs and Spreadsheets (docs.google.com), Zoho another of these on-demand Word processing and office desktop on-demand services ( writer.zoho.com), and Think Free (www.thinkfree.com). I also am a gadget-man. If there is an office toy I gotta have one. I am not sure how many Palm Pilots I have. I know I have five phones including a Motorola Razr. Right now I am running four computers on my desk, to test software on different operating systems: Ubuntu 7.04, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 2000.

I feel that the way I do things today is a freelancer running a mini-business being a business person with a flair for writing. Doing this blog is just another venture of the elwynjenkins activities; and that activity will be done when I am in the city seeing some old mates, or at home in my tree house, or at my daughter's home 800 miles away.

I will be sharing with you anything and everything that comes my way and may be interesting to my fellow road warriors.

Hi Elwyn! Like you, I’ve not seen too many of my clients face-to-face. In fact, I’ve met with one this year, and only because he’s local and I was interested in being friends with him. My work is entirely remote – I get checks from strangers all the time. ;)

Looking forward to making your blog a habit!
