Here comes Motorola's Linux phones
Filed in archive Mobile Phones on June 30, 2008

Motorola ships their new Linux-based phones, MotoMing a1600 and a1800.
Building on the success of Motorola's popular MOTOMING A1200, the new A1600 is both sleeker and more powerful than its predecessor. CLDC 1.1 and MIDP 2.0 compliant, the A1600 is AGPS/GPS friendly and boasts an integrated 3.0 megapixel camera with macro mode, LED flash, and versatile OCR for handwriting and onboard camera scans. It's flexible, too, accommodating up to 4 GB of removable memory.
This is an exciting Linux-phone model if only it is available globally. Unfortunately, even in the Philippines, this phone has yet to make an appearance. With an "open" platform, imagine the possibilities, right? Unfortunately, Google is also banking on the "openness" of their Android platform. We'll see what happens in the next half of 2008.
