Gliffy for all those diagrams on the go   August 7th, 2007

Another Diagramming site has come to my attention in the post "Gliffy – Alternative to Visio".

You can use Gliffy where you might have used Visio or some other diagramming tool. Gliffy allows you to diagram on your desktop without having to download any program at all. So, direct from your browser, which I use Firefox, you can diagram using one of the seven shape libraries.

The seven shape libraries include:

* Flow charting
* UML charting
* Entity relationships
* Network images (printer, switch, servers, firewalls etc. . .
* User Interface charting
* Floor plan images
* Basic Shapes

Gliffy has a free mode, but this is limited to only five pages of diagrams. To upgrade you will need to pay $20 for a year, or $35 for two years. When you are a paying customer you have the ability to generate an unlimited number of diagram documents, unlimited image storage, have priority email support, and ad-free usage.

Personally I do not like having to shell out any money to use a system like this. i would rather have Google's business model where I can use Docs and Spreadsheets or even Google's Mail business model where I am shown advertisements but have free usage of nearly unlimited space.

You can view a number of alternative drawing tools in the post "List of nifty tools for drawing diagrams, charts and flow-charts".
