Part of working online for many of us is working with Instant Messaging. Instant Messaging (IM) allows me the freedom to make a comment direct to a particular person and obtaining a response without having to get up from my keyboard and walking the few yards between my desk and my colleagues. IM also allows me to be "at call" for customers when they need me whether I am in the office or in an Airport or other location when I can be online for them.

The trouble is that IM can seem to use up many hours of time in the day just chatting to people. It was with great enthusiasm when I found the article "Five Ways to Get IM Under Control".
