Mobile Phones
by Elwyn Jenkins on May 1, 2007

Do you really need to video things at work (for example a building construction company requires video images to be taken before a job is started and then as it progresses through) then maybe you need a phone that works as a video camera. Perhaps you need to reduce the cost of your calls by making your calls through VoiP (Internet call routing). Perhaps you need to blog from your phone or a part of the time you are working is really boring and you need something to entertain you, such as good quality music, then maybe you need a new phone.
What I recommend you do is to look very carefully at the Nokia N-Series. This series of phone that were released first in 2005 all push some form of convergence and some seem to push convergence to a silly level that makes you wonder if the phone is too much of a gimmick. To buy a phone in this series you need to find out some key things, such as: Which of the N-Series phones do phone company's in your area offer? What do I want my phone to be able to do? An answer to this question is going to be more about the secondary reason than the fact it is a phone. Anyway, because you need to understand what you want out of a phone, it would be trite for me to recommend one. Rather, you should first visit Nokia's N-Series website.
After visiting the N-Series site there are many sites to visit to glean important information about what N-Series phones are really like. Bloggers and gadget sites have a lot to say about N-Series. There are some disappointments, such as the mobile phone companies that nuke the phone's capability to work with VoiP.
There are some really great blog posts that demonstrate how to do complex things with an N-Series phone, for example, how an N800 can run the Gimp (an image editor), or how to capture geotagged photographs or how to use a N95 as a bluetooth modem.
Anyhow, to help you in reviewing N-Series phones I have compiled a Google Notepad page titled "NSeriesNokia". There are 18 great links to sites to read about and build your knowledge of this nook of the mobile phone woods even a link to a cool video demonstration of an N95 filmed by a Nokia phone owner.
Particularly revealing are the private blogs; have fun reviewing the sites in the Notepad page!
