Don’t throw away your old computer June 25th, 2007

When upgrading your office one of the first things we do is to buy a new computer. "Don't Throw Away Your Old Computer" is an article you must read to do the right thing with your old computer.
The article suggests that throwing the old computer away in the wrong manner has detrimental effects on our environment.
Recycling is one good way of getting rid of the old computer, although there are problems associated with that option that the article discusses.
Some companies will trade-in your old computer, although this is limited to a few companies and limits your options as to what new computer you buy.
One option you should consider is upgrading the internals of your old computer, such as upgraded memory, a new sound card, new video card and similar. You may find that you can keep hold of the old computer for five years instead of buying a new computer every two to three years as most Americans and Australians do.
I am not sure what the turnover rate is like in Europe and Great Britain but I suspect that old computers are held for much longer times in those regions.
