amusing as this may seem, that Google will serve up images of messy desks, a messy desk can be quite a load to carry and can slow down your capability to work.

Lifehacker in the article "Clear Your Desk to Get More Done" suggests that clutter kills productivity. The suggestion is to re-evaluate your workspace and clear away anything you don't immediately need.

The crux of the messy desk problem is whether your messy desk is inviting to come back to work tomorrow. "Is it welcoming?" is the key question to ask yourself. If it is not welcoming then you need to clear away the clutter to make it more welcoming.
