Change Operating Systems and Void Warranty

Have you been tempted to change the operating system on your PC or Laptop? Did your computer or laptop come with windows of some flavour and you changed it to a Linux distribution? Chances are that if you have changed operating systems that you have indeed voided your warranty.

If you think that is odd wait until you read the article "PC World refuse to repair hardware fault, because of Linux". How odd this policy is; did Linux cause the problem? The writer of this article noted that the problem with the laptop was that the hinge to connect the monitor to the body of the laptop is breaking.

One would think that to void a warranty one would be doing something that contributes to the problem. However, having Linux on the computer as against Windows there would be no causative factor with either operating system. Nevertheless, it seems that if you do anything to your computer outside normal use then a warranty is voided whether it contributed to the fault or not.

So just before you go off and change operating systems from that provided by the manufacturer you need to comb through the fine print to see where you are left if indeed you did change operating systems. Worth a look before taking the bold step of changing operating systems.
