In the UK, BT has closed a deal with Fon (provider of hotspots throughout UK totalling about 7,000 presently). It seems that all BT broadband customers will be able to access all Fon hotspots for free.

While this may sound fantastic news for BT broadband customers, it remains to be seen whether this is an attractive offer to BT customers. Many of Fon's hotspots are located in residential high-rise buildings, or in residential neighborhoods rather than in commercial settings.
However, with a larger customer base it would seem that Fon is onto a good thing, particularly with investment dollars from BT. Keep watching this space for further developments in this deal.
