Were you one of the 5.8 million North American customers of BlackBerry that experienced BlackBerry meltdown on Tuesday?
The BlackBerry email network went down about 8pm US eastern time on Tuesday, interrupting millions of messages from arriving at their intended targets. Most did not realise there had been a BlackBerry breakage in the email link as it happened overnight. However, many were left stranded as numbers of meeting cancellations were sent by email to meeting attenders. As they did not receive their emails, people turned up the next day to canceled meetings.
Technology analyst Jeff Kagan in an interview with Tech Times suggested that this meltdown is just a minor blip on the email horizon compared to what it might be like if a terrorist attack was made on the BlackBerry network.
Perhaps one of the lessons we can learn is that subscribing to services the "number-one" service is not always the best thing to do. Seeking out some of the smaller operators maybe a little more secure in the long-run. Subscribing to the BlackBerry service may not be the wise thing to do.
