A Google Wiki?   September 4th, 2007

Bloggers have noted that Google has just about every online collaboration service except a wiki. Back in October 2006 this was noted by Alessandro Vernet in "What Google Didn't Do: A Wiki".

A Google Wiki?

Seems like we don't have to wait much longer as we are now getting reports like "Google Wiki Lunaching Soon?". Of course we know that Google has acquired JotSpot, a wiki service, so it is only a matter of time before we will see a Google Wiki it would seem.

So why would Google offer a wiki service? A Wiki is a collaborative website which can be directly edited by anyone with access to it. It has been described as the "simplest online database that could possibly work".

Essentially a Wiki can be used for a number of reasons, including using a wiki for marketing. Web Worker Daily provides a list of "15 Productive Uses for a Wiki" – a must read to see how a wiki can be used.

With Google coming out with a wiki soon, it just makes it that much more reliable to use an online services such as Google's. You can trust that the wiki database will be available 24 x 7 just like Google Docs and Spreadsheets.
